L'église qui, à cause d'une courbe de l'artère principale, semble sise au milieu de la voie carossable. Elle est visible d'une extrémité à l'autre de la localité. On doit cette particularité au fait que l'église actuelle, plus grande que la précédente, a littéralement été bâtie par-dessus l'église précédente devenue vétuste. Malgré son insistance, l'évêque de Québec de l'époque, Mgr. Pierre-Flavien Turgeon, n'avait pu convaincre la ménagère du précédent curé, défunt, de donner, pour la construction de la nouvelle église, le terrain adjacent qu'elle avait hérité de lui!
L'architecte Charles Baillargé, un petit-cousin de Thomas Baillargé, fut chargé de dresser les plans de l'édifice qui sera construit de 1856 à 1859. De style néo-gothique, elle mesure 25,25m (73 pieds) par 54,86m (180 pieds). Le clocher, qui s'élève à 68,58m (225 pieds) du sol, fut incendié en 1918 mais fut reconstruit selon les plans de Georges-Émile Tanguay.
C'est Charles Baillargé qui dessinera aussi les plans du mobilier qui sera réalisé par François-Xavier Berlinguet. On croit que le sculpteur Louis Jobin a contribué à l'exécution des trois autels puisque à cette époque, il était apprenti chez Berlinguet.
La voûte se caractérise par l'utilisation d'arcs brisés afin de donner un effet de hauteur. L'intérieur est rehaussé par un magnifique décor peint, réalisé à la fin des années 1880 et au début 1890 par François-Xavier-Édouard Meloche, Agenor Ferland et Toussaint-Xénophon Renaud. Deux toiles, un "Baptême du Christ" et une "Immaculée-Conception", calquées sur des oeuvres appartenant aux collections de la cathédrale ou du séminaire de Québec dont les originaux ont été malheureusement détruits par le feu, soit à la cathédrale en 1922 ou à la chapelle du séminaire en 1888.
La chaire néo-gothique est l'oeuvre de Charles Baillargé. Le chemin de la croix, peint sur toile, fut réalisé par Joseph Dynes en 1874.
En 1987, des travaux de rénovation ont été réalisés sur l'édifice et son contenu.
L'orgue
Quant à l'orgue, il s'agit d'un Casavant de 29 jeux répartis sur trois claviers, construit en 1916 sur un ancien fond Déry datant de 1891. Il a été électrifié en 1964 et réharmonisé en 1990 par les ateliers Marcel Bertrand de Québec. Exceptionnellement, il est doté d'un jeu de harpe et d'un carillon.
Le buffet, de style néo-gothique, s'harmonise parfaitement avec celui de l'église. Les tuyaux de façade sont en bois.
Depuis quelques années, en juin, on y présente le Festival d'orgue de Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce, une série de récitals d'orgue les dimanches après-midi.

The church, due to a turn in the main street, seems to be located in the middle of the street. It is visible from one end of the city to the other. This feature is due to the fact that the actual church, larger than the previous, was literally built over the previous one. In spite of his insistence, the then Bishop of Québec, Pierre-Flavien Turgeon, did not succeed in convincing the dead parish priest's house caretaker to turn over, for the construction of the new church, the adjacent land she inherited from him!
Architect Charles Baillargé, Thomas Baillargé's second cousin, was commissionned to prepare the plans of the church that will be built between 1856 and 1859. Of neo-Gothic stule, the church is 73 feet (22.25m) wide by 180 feet (54.86m) long. The bell tower, which rises 225 feet (68.58m) from ground, burnt down in 1918 but was rebuilt according to plans drawn by Georges-Émile Tanguay.
Furniture, also designed by Charles Baillargé, was built by François-Xavier Berlinguet. It is believed that sculptor Louis Jobin participated in the building of the three altars because, at the time, he was an apprentice in Berlinguet's workshop.
The vault is characterized for its pointed arches that give an effect of height. The interior is enhanced by a beautiful painted decor, carried out at the end of the 1880's and beginning of the 1890's by François-Xavier-Édouard Meloche, Agenor Ferland and Toussaint-Xénophon Renaud. Two paintings, one depicting Christ's Baptism and the other, the Immaculate Conception, that were copied from a collection belonging to the Quebec Cathedral or to the Quebec Seminary and whose originals have been destroyed by fire, either of the cathedral in 1922 or of the seminary chapel in 1888.
The neo-Gothic pulpit was also designed by Charles Baillargé. The Way of the Cross, oil on canvas, was painted by Joseph Dynes in 1874.
In 1987, renovation works were carried on the church and its furnishings.
The Organ
As for the organ, it is 3-manual 29-stop Casavant built in 1916 upon an old Dery organ dating from 1891. It was electrified in 1964 and revoiced in 1990 by organbuilder Marcel Bertrand, of Quebec City. Exceptionnally, this organ features an harp stop and a carillon stop.
The neo-Gothic organ case goes very well with the decor of the church. Façade pipes are made of wood.
For a few years now, during the month of June, the Organ Festival of S. Marie de Beauce takes place. It is a series of organ recitals given on Sunday afternoons.
